HC Deb 18 February 1982 vol 18 c190W
28. Mr. John Carlisle

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what was the number of persons detained and convicted in 1981 for illegally overstaying.

Mr. Raison

The only information readily available relates to those appearing before the courts whose principle offence on conviction was that of remaining beyond the limit of their leave, who numbered 1,075 in 1980. Information is not readily available on others convicted of remaining beyond the limit of their leave who at the same time were given a more severe sentence for another offence. Information for 1981 is not yet available.
