HC Deb 18 February 1982 vol 18 c183W
Mr. Roy Hughes

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will list the sports bodies that have protested to him about any proposal to impose a 15 per cent. value added tax on gaming machines on the premises of sports clubs.

Mr. Bruce-Gardyne

Value added tax has been chargeable on the net takings of all gaming machines since 1975. I assume that the hon. Member refers to the possible introduction of an ad valorem form of duty. On this many representations have been received from or on behalf of a wide variety of organisations. These include sports bodies and clubs, but a list of those in this category could be compiled only at disproportionate cost.
