Direct Labour Building Departments

Mr. Latham

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment how many operatives and administrative, professional, technical and clerical staff were employed in local authority direct labour building departments in (a) April 1981 and (b) October 1981 on (i) new housing, (ii) other new works, (iii) housing repairs and maintenance and (iv) non-housing repairs and maintenance.

The figures of APTC staff include all personnel engaged on the design, management, control and so 011 of building and civil engineering work irrespective of whether the work is carried out by direct labour or by a contractor.

The breakdown of operatives employed by function is no longer collected from either private contractors or direct labour organisations.
