§ Mr. Arthur Lewisasked the Secretary of State for Transport whether, when next giving consideration to further financial assistance to British Railways on condition that there is an improvement in productivity, he will impress upon the chairman that such conditions must apply to all British Railways staff, including the chairman, and all classes of the higher-paid executives.
§ Mr. David HowellI am sure that Sir Peter Parker needs no such advice from me. He and his management were working under very great pressure tackling the very serious problems that confront the railways, even before the present disputes began. The level of service that has been achieved despite the ASLEF strikes is a credit to all concerned.
