§ Mr. Lawrenceasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what early action he now proposes for the implementation of the whole or part of the Lindop committee's report on data protection.
§ Mr. WhitelawI announced last March the Government's decision to introduce legislation on data protection and I shall shortly be publishing a White Paper setting out our proposals for legislation. The basis of our proposals will be the establishment of a public register, but we do not intend to set up a data protection authority on the lines recommended by the Lindop Committee.
