§ 34. Mr. Hooleyasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will seek an early meeting with other Finance Ministers in Western Europe with a view to providing the World Bank with funds to restore the cut of one-third in the lending capacity of the International Development Association.
§ Sir Geoffrey HoweNo. The lending capacity of the International Development Association has been temporarily reduced because of a delay in contributions from the United States of America to the sixth replenishment. The United Kingdom Government support the measures, such as an increase in IBRD lending, being taken to minimise the effect on recipient countries. However, the replenishment agreement provides that donors' contributions should move in step and we think it right that this principle of burden-sharing should be maintained.
