HC Deb 09 February 1982 vol 17 cc321-2W
Mr. Ernie Ross

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what is his estimate of the average cost of a school uniform for (a) a primary school pupil and (b) a secondary school pupil; and if he can provide a breakdown per item.

Dr. Boyson

The information on which to base such an estimate is not available. However, a report by the Price Commission in 1977 estimated that the average cost of a school uniform in the United Kingdom was then about £26. At today's prices this would be approximately £36.
