HC Deb 09 February 1982 vol 17 cc329-30W
Sir Ian Gilmour

asked the Secretary of State for Transport on how many days or nights in the last 12 months (a) the stretch of the M40 between Shepherds Bush and Euston Road, (b) the Hammersmith flyover and (c) the Chiswick flyover have been closed in either direction.

Mr. Kenneth Clarke

The roads at the first two are the responsibility of the Greater London Council, and not of the Government. There have been 230 closures at the Chiswick flyover to carry out essential repair and resignalling work. All of these were at night, in order to minimise traffic problems.
