asked the Secretary of State for Trade whether he is satisfied with progress in the bargaining over implementation of the general agreement on tariffs and trade Tokyo round of reductions in technical barriers to trade; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Peter Rees

Yes. The GATT agreement on technical barriers to trade has been in operation for two years. Much of the work of the committee of signatories, to which the United Kingdom contributes, has been to establish that its provisions are understood and are being implemented. This work will continue, and a full review

The Solicitor-General for Scotland

I refer to the statement made by my noble and learned Friend the Lord Advocate and repeated by my predecessor on 21 January 1982—[Vol. 16, c. 423–4.] Permission to raise a private prosecution is now being sought from the High Court of Justiciary and accordingly I deem it unwise to discuss this matter further.
