asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he is satisfied with the level of savings in social security expenditure achieved by the Government on planned expenditure for 1982–83.

Mrs. Chalker

The level of planned expenditure on social security in 1982–83 reflects decisions taken by the Government in the context of public expenditure overall. We are satisfied that all relevant factors have been taken into account in reaching those decisions.
