HC Deb 09 February 1982 vol 17 c321W
Mr. Ernie Ross

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science how many of the 4,185 places taken up under the assisted places scheme in September 1981 went to pupils already attending an independent or direct-grant school; and if he will express that figure as a percentage of the total number.

Dr. Boyson

Of the pupils who took up assisted places in September 1981, 1,346–32 per cent.—had spent at least part of the school years 1979–80 and 1980–81 in other than publicly maintained schools.
