§ Mr. Iain Millsasked the Secretary of State for Transport if he has received any indication from heavy lorry manufacturers of plans to improve lorry design on (a) braking standards, (b) vibration, (c) noise, (d) fume emission, (e) more even weight distribution and (f) general safety.
§ Mr. David HowellMy White Paper "Lorries, People and the Environment" made clear the Government's commitment to making lorries quieter, cleaner and safer. My Department therefore is in touch with all the principal manufacturers and I am pleased to say that there are a number of promising developments for improvement in environmental and safety standards.
