Friend indicated in his statement on training and special employment measures on 15 December, the Government will be spending nearly £4 billion on Manpower Services Commission training programmes over the next three years. We expect that the range of activities under the new training initiative will be eligible for support from the European social fund, but it is not possible to produce any reliable estimate of the amount of assistance which may be received from this source.
