§ 33. Mr. Hoyleasked the Lord Privy Seal whether he has considered initiating any moves within the European Economic Community to help resolve the dispute betweeen Iran and Iraq.
§ Mr. HurdWe do not believe that Iran and Iraq would welcome an attempt by the Ten to mediate. We can best help by supporting the efforts of the Islamic Conference, the United Nations and others at mediation, and by encouraging our friends in the area to use their influence to persuade the belligerents to cease hostilities and to negotiate their diferences by peaceful means.
