§ Mr. Wheelerasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what tests are carried out on radar speed detection devices and the hand-held radar speed gun; and whether all such devices are certified by the British Standards Institution.
§ Mr. MayhewThe radar speed detection equipment currently used by the police is assessed by the traffic committee of the Association of Chief Officers of Police. In accordance with the provisions of the Transport Act 1982 arrangements are in hand for the equipment to be tested by the Home Office. Approval of the equipment will be by my right hon. Friend the Home Secretary rather than the British Standards Institution.
