HC Deb 22 December 1982 vol 34 c539W
Mr. Wardell

asked the Minister for Trade if there are any tariffs, quotas or any other trade barriers to the export of tin plate from the United Kingdom to the United States of America.

Mr. Peter Rees

The export of tin plate to the United States of America is subject to a rate of customs duty of 4.7 per cent, ad valorem in the case of unclad tin plate and 9.3 per cent, ad valorem for clad tin plate, levied on the free on board price.

Tin plate is also included in the recent EC arrangement for steel exports to the United States of America. The EC has been allocated a percentage share, based on traditional levels of exports, of the United States market for certain carbon steel products. The actual distribution amongst member States of export levels for these products is still under discussion.
