HC Deb 22 December 1982 vol 34 c576W
Mr. Ralph Howell

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what were the annual costs of running the Pay Research Unit in the Civil Service; how many people it employed; what is the estimated cost of using consultants for (a) the four-yearly total remuneration survey and (b) the intermediate survey; and what additional expenditure and resources will be required in addition to these costs.

Mr. Hayhoe

The last complete year in which the Civil Service Pay Research Unit operated was in 1980–81. In that year the unit was allocated a total of about £1.1 million in the Appropriation Account and cash provision was made for 91 staff. The other figures asked for cannot be realistically estimated at this stage.
