§ Mr. StanleyI have today placed in the Library a table showing figures reported by local authorities in England of loans made to private persons for house purchase or renovation, and for the amounts left outstanding on sales of council dwellings in 1980–81, 1981–82 and the first quarter of 1982–83.
For information about loans by local authorities in Wales, I refer my hon. Friend to my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Wales.
§ Mr. Heddleasked the Secretary of State for the Environment whether he will list in the Official Report the local authorities in England and Wales which are offering mortgages to their council house tenants under the right-to-buy provisions of the Housing Act 1980.
§ Mr. StanleyUnder the provisions of the Housing Act 1980, every council tenant who has the right to buy also has the right to a mortgage from his landlord. All local authorities in England and Wales must, therefore, offer mortgages to tenants who exercise the right to buy.
