HC Deb 22 December 1982 vol 34 c523W
Mr. Gwilym Roberts

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what steps he is taking to ensure that teaching staff in primary and secondary schools have adequate mathematical training in order to optimise the use of computer facilities.

Mr. William Shelton

The effective use of computers in schools requires a range of skills on the part of the teacher including, for particular aspects, mathematical skills. It is one of the objectives of the Government's microelectronics education programme to encourage and support local education authorities with the necessary training.
