§ Mr. Winnickasked the Minister for Trade if he will seek to increase the maximum fine payable for offences against regulations relating to the marking of origin on imported goods.
§ Dr. VaughanPenalties on summary conviction under the Trade Descriptions Acts were increased in the Magistrates' Courts Act 1980 to a maximum fine of £1,000. On conviction on indictment the penalties are an unlimited fine and up to two years imprisonment. I see no need at present to increase these limits.
