§ Mr. Cryerasked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will place in the Library copies of all correspondence in his possession from persons and bodies outside the Government relating to the death of Helen Smith.
§ Mr. HurdI am not sure what correspondence the hon. Member has in mind. We have in the last three years received a considerable amount of mail on this subject. In 1980 we made available to the West Yorkshire police all documents relating to the death of Miss Smith. The police inspected our files, interviewed our staff and gave their findings to the coroner. Foreign and Commonwealth Office witnesses gave evidence at the inquest. We would similarly place such information at the disposal of the Parliamentary Commissioner for Administration were he to decide to conduct an inquiry.
