§ Mr. Mark Carlisleasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what progress is being made in investigating the possibilities of building prisons in ways that would make it easy to convert them into other forms of penal establishments or into other uses should they no longer be required as closed prisons.
§ Mr. MayhewNo specific investigations are in progress. Prisons now under construction or being designed are capable of conversion to some other prison purposes. It is doubtful whether new prisons could readily be converted to other uses outside the prison service.
