§ Mr. Ashleyasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science if he will estimate the number of deaf-blind children being taught in schools for the educationally subnormal by teachers who have no training in their special educational needs; and if he will take steps to improve the information available about these children.
§ Dr. BoysonA survey of these children, which will include information about numbers, additional handicaps and placement, is being carried out by the National Association for Deaf/Blind and Rubella Handicapped. The results will be made available to the Department and should offer a firmer basis for determining the aptness of the existing teachers' qualifications, and deciding what further steps need to be taken.
