§ Mr. John MacKayThe Scottish Federation of Fishermen's Co-operatives is currently receiving grant from the Scottish Development Agency to assist in the promotion and development of co-operation in the fishing industry. Individual fishing co-operatives receive financial 57W assistance from the Sea Fish Industry Authority towards their formation costs, and administrative costs in the first year.
§ Mr. McQuarrieasked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will introduce legislation to permit the Sea Fish Industry Authority to encourage the setting up of fishing co-operatives.
§ Mr. John MackaySection 3(1) of the Fisheries Act 1981 empowers the Sea Fish Industry Authority to give financial assistance—by way of loan, grant or guarantee—to persons incurring expenditure in forming, carrying on or extending the activities of fishing co-operatives.
