§ Mr. Buchanan-SmithOf the 542,000 tonnes of butter subsidised on the Community market in 1981, 37 per cent. was sold on the United Kingdom market. In addition, the levy on 94,000 tonnes of New Zealand butter imported into the United Kingdom in 1981 was reduced by an amount equivalent to the consumer butter subsidy. Taken together, these tonnages represent 88 per cent. of the total United Kingdom butter consumption in that year.
