§ Mr. Arthur Lewisasked the Secretary of State for Social Services, pursuant to the reply to the hon. Member for Newham, North-West, Official Report, 5 July, c. 24, whether his Department will in future keep records of the amounts of money of which his Department is defrauded when this fraud is proved by criminal conviction.
§ Mr. RossiThe Department is currently considering a revision of the methods of collecting and processing fraud statistics. The system under consideration would involve the collecting of detailed information on a sample of cases and this would enable an estimate to be made of the amount of benefit overpaid to persons convicted of fraud.
