§ Mr. Arthur Lewisasked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, in view of the growing practice of present and past officials of the European Economic Community who have an interest in the European Economic Community making controversial political speeches in the United Kingdom, whether he will seek to ensure that the rules applying to British civil servants on political speeches apply to these present and former European officials.
§ Mr. HurdNo. The rules relating to public speeches by British civil servants are designed to protect the relationship between officials and Ministers. The relationship between members of the Commission and its officials is a matter for the Commission.
