§ Mr. John MacKayThe number of social workers holding the certificate of qualification in social work in each regional and islands council in Scotland is given in the following table. The training course leading to this certificate usually covers aspects of mental health, and some social workers will also have received practical training in work with the mentally ill as part of this basic training. Information about the percentage of social workers who have received formal training in mental welfare by attendance at post-qualifying courses is not available, but it is estimated to be very small.
