§ Mr. Anthony Grantasked the Prime Minister which powers of direction possessed by Ministers in relation to nationalised industries and statutory corporations may include directions in respect of the placing and economy of their insurance arrangements.
§ The Prime MinisterStatutes vary from industry to industry, but Ministers normally have powers of general direction over nationalised industries exercisable in the national interest. It is conceivable that insurance arrangements may in certain circumstances fall within the scope of these powers, but, in general, such matters fall within the day-to-day management responsibilities of the industries concerned.
