§ Sir Keith JosephThis is an important and wide-ranging report. I am studying its findings in so far as they relate to my responsibilities and I look to the other interested parties—including the local education authorities, teachers, trainers of teachers and the governors of schools—to do the same.
I have arranged to discuss the report with the local education authorities and I welcome its examination by the Advisory Committee on the Supply and Education of Teachers. I expect it to bear on the advice which the committee have offered to prepare on the content of initial teacher training, and on its programme of further work. I shall also take account of the report in considering whether, in the light of responses to the Department's recent consultative paper, to make changes in the arrangements relating to the qualification of teachers.
