§ Mr. Allen McKayasked the Secretary of State for Employment if he will list the percentage figure of unemployment in each area of the Penistone constituency for each year since 1978 and the latest percentage figure produced by the new counting method.
§ Mr. Alison[pursuant to his reply, 2 December 1982, c. 254]: Percentage rates of unemployment are calculated only for complete travel-to-work areas. The Chapeltown and Hoyland jobcentre areas which, together, correspond closely to the Penistone parliamentary constituency, are constituent parts of the Sheffield and Barnsley travel-to-work areas, respectively. The following table gives, for the travel-to-work areas, the percentage rates for 380W registered unemployed (old basis) at November each year from 1978 to 1981 and the percentage rate at November 1982 for unemployed claimants (new basis).
