§ 47. Mr. McNamaraasked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will make a statement on the progress of the joint development by Club Mediterranée with the Overseas Development Agency on the islands of Providenciales.
§ Mr. Neil MartenThere is no joint development as such. The holiday village project is the result of an agreement concluded between Club Mediterranée and the Government of the Turks and Caicos Islands. Club Mediterranée has not yet started construction. In connection with the general development of tourism and to enable the Government of the Turks and Caicos Islands to fulfil their obligations to Club Mediterranée, the British Government are financing the improvement of the existing airstrip on Providenciales, and the construction of certain roads. Work on the airport is almost complete and is expected to finish early in January.
