§ Mr. Pavittasked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will examine the reasons contributing to the fall in the working days lost due to industrial injuries 398W (accident) and prescribed diseases from 15.6 millions in 1978–79 to 13.1 millions in 1979–80; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. WaddingtonI have been asked to reply.
The figures refer only to industrial injury benefit claims involving over three days' absence from work. They show a reduction of 16 per cent. in days lost.
The figures indicate a welcome decline after a period between 1974 and 1979 in which little change occurred. They support other indicators which show a continuing overall improvement in health and safety.
