HC Deb 06 December 1982 vol 33 cc373-4W
Mr. Nicholas Winterton

asked the Secretary of State for Employment whether, in view of the depressed state of the construction industry and considerations of safety on site, the Government will allow construction firms to take on only one young person to every two they normally recruit, in order to qualify for the youth training scheme.

Mr. Peter Morrison

Under the youth training scheme, for every three extra trainees employers take on two of their normal intake of 16-year-old school leavers will also qualify for grants. It will be for the Manpower Services Commission and managing agents to discuss with employers how the rules should apply in their individual case.
