HC Deb 06 December 1982 vol 33 c411W
Mr. Dalyell

asked the Secretary of State for Defence, pursuant to the reply of 29 November, if he is satisfied that sonar fitted to submarines in the Conqueror class can operate satisfactorily in depths of 150 ft. of water in the Baltic.

Mr. Blaker

The sonars fitted to HM submarines can operate in shallow water although all sonars are necessarily less effective in such conditions because of environmental limitations.

Mr. Dalyell

asked the Secretary of State for Defence, pursuant to the reply of 29 November, what escorts the carrier "25 de Mayo" had and where.

Mr. Blaker

A number of escort vessels. I am not prepared to give details.
