HL Deb 06 December 1982 vol 437 cc107-8WA
Lord Kennet

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether it is the case that they, having previously intended to extend British territorial waters to 12 miles in acordance with the consensus reached at UNLOSC III, in view of the dissatisfaction with the text announced by the present American Administration, are now no longer proposing so to extend British jurisdiction despite the substantial advantages such extension would bring to this country.

The Minister of State, Foreign and Commonwealth Office (Lord Belstead)

We are considering this issue in the light of the results of the United Nations Conference on the Law of the Sea.
