§ Mr. Michael Alison[pursuant to his reply, 29 November 1982, c. 33]: Percentage rates of unemployment by age are not calculated for local areas. At October 1982, there were 19,809 young people under 20 years of age registered as unemployed—old basis—in the Liverpool travel-to-work area. Of this number, 24.7 per cent. had been unemployed for over 52 weeks. The corresponding figures at April 1979—not availale for May—were 11,863 and 22.8 per cent. An analysis for the age group specified is not available.
§ Mr. Willeyasked the Secretary of State for Employment what were the total figures for unemployment in Sunderland in October from 1977 to 1982; how many had been unemployed for 12 months or more in those years; and what were the figures for youth unemployment in each year.
§ Mr. Alison[pursuant to his reply, 29 November 1982, c. 34]: The following table gives the total numbers of people registered as unemployed and the numbers who had been unemployed for over 52 weeks at October each year from 1977 in the Sunderland employment office area. It also gives the numbers of young people under 18 years of age registered as unemployed and the numbers who had been unemployed for over 52 weeks at October each year from 1978. A cross-analysis by age and duration of unemployment was not made for October 1977.
