Under the microelectronics education programme, a number of development projects are now under way relating to microelectronics and the education of the handicapped. Four special education microelectronics resource centres have also been established to promote the effective use of microelectronics in the teaching of children with special educational needs. The Department is holding a conference in Birmingham later this month, in conjunction with the Council for Educational Technology, to consider the curricular implications of microelectronics in special education.
