§ 18. Mr. Iain Millsasked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if the Meat (Sterilisation and Staining) Regulations 1982 are having the intended effect of preventing the illicit trade in unfit meat.
§ Mr. Buchanan-SmithThe regulations came into operation on 1 November and it is too early to assess what affect they are having. I believe, that with effective enforcement by local authorities and vigilance by meat companies the new regulations should provide a sound basis for the prevention of illegal trade.
