HC Deb 01 December 1982 vol 33 c182W
Mr. Allen McKay

asked the Secretary of State for Energy (1) how many power stations are due for closure in 1983, 1984, 1985, 1986 and 1987, respectively;

(2) how many coal-fired power stations are due for closure in 1983, 1984, 1985, 1986 and 1987, respectively; and what is the annual consumption of coal of the power stations closing in each year.

Mr. Gray

The CEGB reviews power station closures annually.

No decisions on closures have been taken for 1984 onwards. The board recently announced the following closures for 1983:

  1. (a) Coal Fired: Acton Lane, Battersea B, Cliff Quay (part), Connah's Quay (part), Deptford, Doncaster, Drakelow A (part), Goldington, Huncoat (part), Keadby (part), North Tees C, Skelton Grange A, Staythorpe A, Stourport B (part), West Ham.
  2. (b) Oil Fired: Marchwood.

I am advised by the CEGB that the total coal consumption at the above coal-fired stations in the last financial year was 1.45 million tonnes.
