§ Mr. Austin Mitchellasked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food whether attempts to control Danish fishing in United Kingdom waters are compatible with regulation 2(1) accepted by the Council of Ministers on 30 June 1970 that member States should ensure in particular equal conditions of access to, and use of, fishing grounds for all fishing vessels flying the flag of a member State and registered in a Community territory.
§ Mr. Buchanan-SmithI assume the hon. Member is referring to Council regulation 101/76—formerly Regulation 2141/70 adopted on 30 June 1970—article 2(1) of which contains the words quoted. It is generally agreed that restrictions on fishing both as to the volume of catches and access to waters can be compatible with this regulation.
