Mr. W. E. Garrett

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment (1) if he will estimate the possible job loss if the second proposal of the European Economic Community directive 464 relating to cadmium levels in water is approved at the meeting of Environmental Ministers on 3 December;

(2) if he is satisfied with the United Kingdom water authorities' system of monitoring cadmium levels into receiving waters;

(3) if the levels of cadmium discharge into receiving waters comply with the proposed directive 76/464/EEC/4/576;

(4) if he is satisfied with the scientific advice available to his Department relative to the use of cadmium; and if he is satisfied that it is equal to advice available to the European Economic Community.
