HL Deb 02 August 1982 vol 434 cc670-1WA
Lord Marshall of Leeds

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether it is their intention (given the spirit of the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981) that any proposal (or any decision thereon) for major land use changes in the North York Moors National Park should be deferred until the draft critical moorland map, currently the subject of public consultation, has been confirmed.

The Earl of Avon

Under Section 43 of the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981, the county planning authority must prepare (by 30th November 1983) a map showing those areas of moor and heath in the North York Moors National Park which it is in their opinion particularly important to conserve. There is no requirement for confirmation of this map. Meanwhile, it is for the county planning authority to decide how to deal with any proposals for major land use changes within the park.
