HL Deb 02 August 1982 vol 434 c660WA
Lord Inglewood

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they are satisfied with the system explained by the Parliamentary Secretary to the Home Office (H.L. debates 21st July; col. 869) implying that the Home Secretary is unable to satisfy himself directly, or Parliament, either as the responsible Minister of the Crown or as the police authority for the Metropolitan Police, that the number and dispositions of the police on security duties at Buckingham Palace are sufficient for the protection of the Royal Family other than by his asking for information from the Metropolitan Police whose recent system has been shown to have had serious weaknesses.

Lord Elton

The system by which my right honourable friend calls for reports from the Commissioner of Police of the Metropolis works satisfactorily and does not need to be changed.
