§ Mr. Tilleyasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what instructions have been given to immigration officers about overseas students who are found to be receiving rent rebates or allowances.
§ Mr. RaisonThe immigration rules provide that a passenger seeking entry as a student must satisfy the280W immigration officer that he can meet the cost of his course and his maintenance without recourse to public funds. The receipt of a rent allowance or rate rebate by an overseas student would be a factor to be taken into account in considering whether to grant any subsequent application for an extension of stay or for readmission after a temporary absence abroad.
