HC Deb 23 April 1982 vol 22 c145W
Mr. Arthur Lewis

asked the Prime Minister whether she will seek to arrange for President Reagan, when addressing members of the two Houses of Parliament in the Royal Gallery, to reply to questions from hon. Members or arrange for a special question and answer session.

The Prime Minister

The time available to President Reagan to visit the Palace of Westminster is very limited. The ceremony of the address is a formal occasion and it follows precedents established during earlier visits of this kind. Whilst it provides the only opportunity for him to make a major speech during his visit, it would not be appropriate to arrange a question and answer session.
