HC Deb 23 April 1982 vol 22 c150W
Mr. D. E. Thomas

asked the Secretary of State for Wales if he will direct the Mid-Glamorgan health authority to remove the monolingual English language sign erected at its premises at 44 Cathedral Road, in view of the fact that its erection does not accord with Her Majesty's Government's policy on equal status for the Welsh language.

Mr. Wyn Roberts

No. The exact way in which Welsh health authorities implement the advice already given to them is best decided locally.

Mr. D. E. Thomas

asked the Secretary of State for Wales whether he has issued any guidelines to Welsh health authorities concerning a bilingual policy.

Mr. Wyn Roberts

Yes. Welsh Health Service circular WHSC(IS)117 issued as a bilingual document in March 1975 to Welsh health authorities gave general advice on the use of the Welsh language. A copy of this circular is in the library.
