§ Mr. MayhewIn addition to praising many aspects of the work of the prison service, the report of H.M. Chief Inspector of Prisons draws attention to the serious consequences of the mismatch between demands made on the service and the resources available to it. It is the aim of Government policy to correct that mismatch and in lily right hon. Friend's foreword to the report he set out the steps being taken to this end.
