§ Q10. Mr. Lathamasked the Prime Minister whether she will outline the steps being taken by Her Majesty's Government to achieve measures of disarmament on the basis of mutual and balanced agreements between major powers.
§ The Prime MinisterWe remain in close consultation with the United States Government about the progress of the US-USSR negotiations on intermediate-range nuclear forces which are taking place in Geneva and we have welcomed the prospect of talks on strategic arms reductions. We also play an active part in the multilateral negotiations for mutual and balanced force reductions in Central Europe, and have consistently advocated a conference on Disarmament in Europe. In the Committee on Disarmament in Geneva on 18 February we launched a fresh initiative on chemical weapons. I look forward to making a positive contribution to work of the Second United Nations Special Session on Disarmament in New York in June.
