§ Mrs. Renée Shortasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science whether he has had discussions about the extension of information technology into wider areas of the curriculum.
§ Dr. BoysonThis is an important objective of the Government's microelectronics education programme sponsored by the DES, the Welsh Office and the Department of Education, Northern Ireland. The programme is concerned with ways of using the microcomputer as an aid to teaching and learning in a wide range of subjects as well as with the introduction of new elements in subjects such as electronics and craft design technology, in order that as many young people as possible become familiar with information technology and its applications. Consideration of this issue by local education authorities forms part of their responsibility for curriculum policy, and is likely to receive particular attention in 1982 as part of Information Technology Year.
